History

Sanskar Radio is a part of the Sabras Radio family, adding to the variety of programmes that are already on offer. The aim of Sanskar Radio is to raise cultural, social, religious, educational and economical awareness among Hindu listeners through programme production. Thirty two people are involved in the running of the group, four of whom are committee members, and all the people involved are volunteers.

Sanskar Radio broadcasts on DAB Digital Radio for 24 hours every-day. Shows are broadcast from Sabras Radio House, and the programmes cater for men, women and children, young and old. Each programme aims to assist the community members who have little insight of the Hindu faith and religion, as well as broadening the knowledge of those who are aware of Hinduism, and may be followers of it. All types of religious Hindu music is featured throughout every show.

This organisation adopts equal opportunities in all areas. It shows a commitment to equal opportunity within the work it undertakes by welcoming men, women and children from the ethnic minority community to take part in the management and production of radio broadcast. Everyone involved in running Sanskar Radio is bi-lingual, which means that people listening to Sanskar Radio who may not be familiar with certain languages are still able to communicate effectively with presenters of the show. The venue from which Sanskar Radio is broadcast provides access for disabled people, as well as for people who are hard of hearing.

Members of the community in Leicestershire live in a multi-cultural society; it is important that they are aware of their culture, as well as other cultures and traditions. They need to learn how to live harmoniously with people of different religions and races. Each Sanskar Radio programme brings awareness of different cultures by broadcasting topics on various issues, which provides listeners with ideas, knowledge and understanding of the multi-cultural community.
