SABRAS RADIO CELEBRATES SUCCESS OF DIWALI EVENT

The Midland’s popular Asian radio station, Sabras Radio has been hailing the success of its huge Diwali event, which took place on Diwali day itself – Sunday 30th October 2016.

The station, which celebrated its 21st anniversary in September this year, has been holding its annual Diwali celebrations at its studios for the last couple of years due to differences with the Leicester City Council. Like last year, this year also the council opted against any radio partners for its main entertainment stage, which was located on the “Golden Mile”. Not one to hold back, Sabras Radio roped in some of the biggest UK Asian performers to give revelers one of the biggest Diwali parties in Leicester.

Starting from 17:00 up until 21:30, Sabras Radio’s Diwali Party was broadcast on-air and online with performances from Arjun, who for the first time celebrated Diwali in Leicester with Sabras Radio. Not just that, Arjun pulled out all the stops for an exclusive ‘flashmob’ outside the Sabras Radio studios, which saw thousands of spectators gathering to watch the 3-minute performance on the Melton Road.

Navin Kundra also returned to Sabras Radio after an 18-month hiatus. He performed his latest chartbuster ‘Tear It Up’, as well as some of his other classic hits. The show also included exclusive performances by local singer Kadam Verma, Sukh Cheema, Utkarsh & Hinal and DNS Dancers. Sabras Radio also featured an exclusive performance of Kay Kay and Anjna Chauhan, who have worked closely with AR Rahman and other popular Bollywood musicians. Up and coming singer, Irfan Ahmed traveled from London to be with Sabras Radio, plus the popular Sitar player Akash Parekar, performed a Diwali special track.

Raj Baddhan, Operations Manager, Sabras Radio said, “The Sabras Radio Diwali Party was one of our biggest events in recent times. Thousands of people flocked into our studios to embrace the entertainment, which the council lacked on its main stage. We did this for our listeners, who expect big things from Sabras Radio. There’s no other commercial Asian Radio station that holds such a huge event at its studios like this. Thanks to the thousands that came into our studios and to our wonderful sponsors for making this such a stomping success.”
